Boom Boom Shot started as a birthday party problem: we couldn't find a digital sweepstakes tool that looked good or felt fun to use. A small team of friends and I decided to build one.
A sweepstakes tool sounds simple, but existing options were visually flat and clunky to run live. We set three goals:
We launched in 2021 as a free tool. An SEO strategy brought in early traffic, and the tool ended up used for retail promotions, corporate events, and bars looking for ways to engage customers, across North America and Europe.
To keep improving the product, we tracked user behavior with Amplitude and Hotjar, combined with user interviews, to guide new features.

That research led to a specific set of features:
By 2023, the user base had grown 300%, to close to 8,000 active users. We kept a free tier but added a premium subscription in late 2022 through Stripe, and combined with 37,000 site visits in 2023, that turned the project into a sustainable business.
What started as an experiment in building a SaaS product from scratch has become a tool used well beyond where we expected.
Boom Boom Shot showed me what a small team can build and sustain without outside funding, and how far consistent, data-driven iteration can take a simple idea.
