Chopard

Innovating Chopard’s sales training with digital tools.

Overview

Established in 1860, Chopard is a renowned Swiss brand known for its luxury watches, jewelry, and accessories. From 2013 to 2014, I contributed to creating educational materials for the sales team and designed the Chopard academy e-learning app. This project aimed to provide easy and engaging access to knowledge for Chopard employees.

Educational material simplification

Creating educational materials for Chopard's sales team posed a significant challenge: how to distill complex information about the science of gemmology and luxury products into content that was both digestible and engaging. The aim was to equip the sales force with the knowledge necessary to convey the unique value and craftsmanship of Chopard's watches, jewelry, and accessories effectively. This required not just simplifying the information but doing so in a way that maintained Chopard's sophisticated and luxurious allure, ensuring sales teams could connect deeply with clients through a comprehensive understanding of the products.

Designing for engagement

The primary goal was to create an educational platform that catered to users of varied technological abilities, considering the sales force's average age was around 50. It was crucial to find a balance between intuitive usability and engaging content to foster regular usage. By incorporating features such as an achievement system, bookmarking, smart reminders, and more, we aimed to make learning about Chopard's heritage and offerings both accessible and enjoyable for all employees. This necessitated thoughtful user interface design and innovative content delivery strategies.

A collaborative approach

To tackle these challenges, I adopted a collaborative approach, working closely with Chopard's team to ensure the educational content and app design aligned with their brand values and expectations. This involved regular feedback sessions to refine the materials and app features. My efforts to foster a productive relationship with Chopard's team were crucial in developing solutions that were not only effective but also resonated with the brand's luxury ethos.

Personal reflection

After having worked for the Swiss Institute of Gemmology SSEF for over 5 years, my project with Chopard presented an excellent opportunity to delve deeper into the luxury sector and mark my initial foray into the e-learning domain—a field that would significantly impact my career later on, as detailed in the Changr use case.

This experience helped me understand the importance of aligning educational content with brand values and the need for creating engaging learning materials that really resonate with their audience through storytelling, simplicity and enjoyment. More importantly it made me realize the importance of the learning platform’s design in supporting users on their educational journey with an intuitive interface, well-thought-out user flows, and beneficial features.
